Mr Major’s Written Parliamentary Answer on Wheelchairs – 22 October 1986
Below is the text of Mr Major’s written Parliamentary Answer on Wheelchairs on 22nd October 1986.
Mr. Cash Asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many electrical wheelchairs for disabled persons have been withdrawn from service which had been supplied by his Department and were in need of repair or replacement over the last 12 months.
Mr. Major Information is not held in the form requested. In the 12 months to 30 June 1986 a total of 2,829 electrically powered indoor wheelchairs were withdrawn from service (against 11,706 on issue), but information is not held centrally as to what proportion of these were withdrawn for repair or replacement, and what proportion were withdrawn for other reasons such as the need for a different model, voluntary relinquishment or the death of the user.
