Mr. Richard Shepherd To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his latest forecast for the rate of economic growth in the United Kingdom over the coming year.

Mr. Major In the Autumn Statement my right hon. Friend the Chancellor forecast that the economy would grow by 2.5 per cent. in 1988. The non-oil economy is expected to grow by 3 per cent. This will take us into the eighth successive year of steady growth.
