Mr Major’s Written Parliamentary Answer on Government Expenditure – 11 February 1988
Below is the text of Mr Major’s written Parliamentary Answer on Government Expenditure on 11th February 1988.
Dr. Michael Clark To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will indicate Government expenditure per head of the electorate in (a) Scotland and (b) England and Wales in 1979 and the latest year for which figures are available.
Mr. Major The table shows identifiable public expenditure per head of the electorate:
£ per head of the electorate
Country | 1979–80 | 1986–87
Scotland | 1,804 | 3,235
England and Wales | 1,421 | 2,591
The figures for the two years are not directly comparable because of changes in definition which have taken place between different public expenditure White Papers.
