Mr. Jack To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement on the sources, level and economic effect of inward investment during the current financial year.
Mr. Major In the second and third quarters of 1987 – the latest period for which information is available – international confidence in the United Kingdom economy led to inward direct and portfolio investment of £9.5 billion. Information on the geographical sources of recent capital inflows is not available.
