Mr. Bowis To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what have been the invisible earnings of the arts for each of the past 10 years.

Mr. Major [holding answer 28 July 1988]: No comprehensive official estimates are available. A number of components in the invisibles account will be affected directly or indirectly by expenditure relating to cultural activities, especially travel and film and television services.
