Mr Major’s Comments on the Economy – 12 February 1992

Below is the text of Mr Major’s comments on the economy, made on 12th February 1992.

PRIME MINISTER:

We have been saying consistently that we are putting the country in the right conditions to have a sustained period of recovery without inflation.

I don’t want a sudden boom and bust mentality. I want a position where we will get steady, sustainable growth. An environment in which businessmen can be confident and can invest and will know that that investment will not be eaten away by inflation or by other extraneous economic difficulties.
