Government Statement on Bosnia – 2 August 1994

Below is the transcript of a Government statement on Bosnia, released on Tuesday 2nd August 1994.

We welcomed the statement by President Milosevic supporting this Contact Group proposal and calling on the Bosnian Serbs to accept it. It was important that all Serbs should realise what was at stake and that the Bosnian Serbs should reconsider their position. The latest Bosnian Serb statement suggesting further negotiations with the Contact Group did not provide the clear acceptance of the Group’s proposal which was a prerequisite to any further discussions. We now looked to President Milosevic to exercise decisive influence on the Bosnian Serb leadership to accept the proposal so that the peace process could go forward.
