Mr Major’s Comments on Bosnia – 5 December 1994
Below is the text of Mr Major’s comments during an interview on 5th December 1994 relating to Bosnia.
PRIME MINISTER:
QUESTION:
[Mr Major was asked about the possibility of early British withdrawal from Bosnia]
ANSWER:
I don’t think anyone can be certain about that at the moment. We very much do not wish to withdraw the British troops there. The UNPROFOR troops generally have done a marvellous job; there are huge numbers of people alive today who would not have been alive but for UNPROFOR but if the circumstances become impossible, if the sides are not prepared to reach an agreement, if the fighting goes on, then it might be necessary for UNPROFOR to withdraw. Certainly that possibility is greater now than it was a month or so ago.
