Mr Major’s Comments on the Stirling Royal Infirmary – 15 March 1996

Below is the text of Mr Major’s comments made on the work of the Stirling Royal Infirmary following the Dunblane Tragedy during a visit to the hospital on 15th March 1996.

PRIME MINISTER:

This hospital has had to deal with a horror of almost unimaginable proportions.

Tony [Blair] and I, this morning, were delighted to come here together so that we could take the opportunity to thank the hospital for the work that they have done. I don’t think there is any doubt in the minds of anyone in that hospital, certainly none of the patients or the other people that we met, that they had to face an horrific job and have done it with the most enormous skill and dedication over recent days.

We met a number of the patients, some of whom had been very severely injured, and they are in remarkably good shape, and there’s no doubt that they’ve had the most tremendous treatment and I was delighted to be here this morning with Tony to express our thanks to them for the work that they’ve done.
