Mr Major’s Comments on Government Advertising – 26 April 1989
Below is the text of Mr Major’s comments when questioned whether the Government was abusing the rules on advertising, spending large sums on privatisation advertising campaigns. His comments were made on 26th April 1989.
CHIEF SECRETARY TO THE TREASURY:
If we had doubts about Government advertising campaigns it wouldn’t proceed because there are very strong issues of propriety and we observe them very strictly indeed.
