Mr Major’s Comments on Labour’s Policy on Scotland – 4 April 1997
The text of Mr Major’s comments on Labour’s Scottish policy, made on 4th April 1997.
PRIME MINISTER:
What a humiliating position Mr Blair’s answer has put the Scottish Labour Party in. First they have candidates imposed on them from London, then bring the Scottish manifesto up from London in Mr Blair’s back pocket and tell the Scots what the manifesto is going to contain. Thirdly, he ignores the views entirely of Scottish Members of Parliaments. And then he regards the Scottish Assembly as if it were a parish council.
