Mr Major’s Doorstep Interview in New Zealand – 10 November 1995
Below is the text of Mr Major’s doorstep interview in Auckland, New Zealand, held on Friday 10th November 1995.
QUESTION:
[Inaudible].
PRIME MINISTER:
I am happy that they acknowledge the other side of the argument but I think what they have got in their statement is factually inaccurate, intellectually inconsistent and unbalanced and I haven’t signed up to that and they know that.
QUESTION:
Are you sitting on the fence, Mr Major?
PRIME MINISTER:
I am not sitting on the fence on the question of nuclear testing. I have made it perfectly clear I think the view that has been expressed by our Commonwealth colleagues is just plain wrong, just plain wrong. That has been my position right the way through and it remains my position now.
