Below is the text of Mr Major’s written Parliamentary Answer on NHS Funding on 5th February 1988.

Mrs. Clwyd To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if, in view of recent representations, he will increase the resources available to(a) the National Health Service and (b) education and training from the totals proposed in his White Paper.

Mr. Major The White Paper plans show large increases in provision for both health and education. They will be reviewed again in the normal way in this year’s public expenditure survey.
