Mr Major’s Comments on a Hung Parliament – 6 April 1992
Below is the text of Mr Major’s comments on the possibility of a hung Parliament, made on 6th April 1992.
PRIME MINISTER:
I take very seriously indeed the capacity of a Government to have a majority, so that when it speaks for Britain abroad in the European Community, and elsewhere, it knows that it can speak for what it believes to be the long-term interests of this country and not be looking over its shoulder as to whether a minority party or a hung parliament can bring the Government down in those particular negotiations.
