Mr Major’s Comments on the Cancellation of the Grand National – 5 April 1997
The text of Mr Major’s comments on the cancellation of the Grand National, made on 5th April 1997.
PRIME MINISTER:
The perverted way in which the IRA think make it quite possible that they will believe that they can act in this fashion, as they did earlier this week, the M6 and the M1 and then suddenly and cynically declare a ceasefire and then expect to be received back into the peace talks in the near future. I hope they realise that they may think that way, but the British Government doesn’t, and the British public doesn’t.
