Conservative Leadership Results – November 1990
Below are the results from the 1990 Conservative Party leadership contest.
November 20th 1990 – First round of Conservative Party leadership contest. Margaret Thatcher obtained 204 votes, Michael Heseltine 152 votes, 6 abstentions and 17 void.
November 22nd 1990 – Margaret Thatcher resigned as Prime Minister.
November 27th 1990 – John Major became Leader of the Conservative Party following the second round of the leadership contest. John Major obtained 185 votes, Michael Heseltine 131 votes and Douglas Hurd 56 votes.
November 28th 1990 – John Major became Prime Minister after being summoned to Buckingham Palace by the Queen.
