Mr. Leighton Asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what percentage of income in the London borough of Newham is derived from social security payments; and what is the national percentage.

Mr. Major In 1984 approximately 16 per cent. of national household disposable income came from social security benefits. No comparable figure is available for the London borough of Newham.
