Mr Major’s Doorstep Interview in London – 27 February 1991
Below is the text of Mr Major’s doorstep interview held on 27th February 1991.
[Mr Major was asked whether Iraq had accepted the requirements set out by the United Nations]
PRIME MINISTER:
They haven’t yet offered to meet all the resolutions. They’re not yet clear about leaving their equipment. And of course also, we want to make sure that they return any Kuwaitis that they may have abducted and taken to Iraq. So although they appear to be making some movement, they certainly have not yet, so far as I understand it from the information yet available, they have not yet met the conditions we have repeatedly set out, and they must do so.
QUESTION:
And until they do, the war continues, all the way to Baghdad?
PRIME MINISTER:
Until they do so, the conflict continues.
