Below is the text of the written answers relating to Prime Minister’s Question Time from 13th November 1992.

PRIME MINISTER:

 

Matrix Churchill

Mr. Soley : To ask the Prime Minister when the ministers concerned signed public interest immunity certificates in the Matrix Churchill case; and if he will make a statement.

The Prime Minister : The relevant certificates were signed by the Home Secretary on 16 June 1992 and 29 September 1992, by the President of the Board of Trade on 11 and 26 September 1992, by the Secretary of State for Defence on 7 September 1992 and by the Minister of State (Foreign and Commonwealth Office) on 3 and 23 September 1992. I explained the basis for issuing these certificates to the House on 12 November.

Mr. Dalyell : To ask the Prime Minister on what date it was first brought to his attention that Matrix Churchill exports had been used for military purposes by Iraq.

Mr. Soley : To ask the Prime Minister when he first knew that Matrix Churchill exports to Iraq had been sanctioned.

The Prime Minister : I shall write to the hon. Members as soon as all the relevant records have been checked.
