QUESTION:

[The Prime Minister was asked whether the Secretary of State of Social Security, Peter Lilley, was right to bring forward plans for pension reform]

PRIME MINISTER:

We have to bear in mind that there will be huge numbers of extra people who will retire and live much longer, in terms of the number of years they will live in retirement. Now, we need to begin to make plans for that now, this isn’t something we can do with six month’s notice.
