PRIME MINISTER:

 

Ministerial Offices

Mr. Boyes : To ask the Prime Minister how many bottles of (a) whisky and gin and (b) sherry and port were consumed by his private offices in 1993-94.

The Prime Minister : Disaggregated information of this sort could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.

Mr. Boyes : To ask the Prime Minister what was the cost of new furniture for his private office during the year 1993-94.

The Prime Minister : Such purchases are included within my Office’s overall administration expenditure, which is published every year in the annual report.

 

Engagements

Sir Peter Tapsell : To ask the Prime Minister if he will list his official engagements for Tuesday 8 March.

Mr. Harry Greenway : To ask the Prime Minister if he will list his official engagements for Tuesday 8 March.

The Prime Minister : This morning I had meetings with ministerial colleagues and others. In addition to my duties in this House, I shall be having further meetings later today.

 

Official Gifts

Mr. Tony Banks : To ask the Prime Minister, pursuant to his answer of 22 February, Official Report, column 162, what happened to those gifts of small value presented to former Prime Minister Baroness Thatcher and not required by her on leaving office.

The Prime Minister : Gifts of small value are the property of the Prime Minister, not the Government. The retention or disposal of such items is therefore a matter for the Prime Minister concerned.

 

Malaysian Protocol

Mr. Alan Williams : To ask the Prime Minister how many Cabinet meetings were held between the signing of the Malaysian protocol in March 1988 and 28 June 1988.

The Prime Minister : It remains the Government’s practice not to give details of Cabinet or Cabinet Committee meetings.

Mr. Alan Williams : To ask the Prime Minister on what date he was first made aware of the references to civil aid and arms’ sales in the Malaysian protocol of March 1988.

The Prime Minister : On 12 May 1988, in my capacity as Chief Secretary to the Treasury.
