Mr. Gordon Brown Asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many prosecutions there have been for benefit fraud in (a) Scotland and (b) Britain in 1985.

Mr. Major In 1984-85, the last full year for which figures are available, prosecutions for benefit fraud totalled 662 in Scotland and 8,436 in Great Britain.
