Mr Major’s Written Parliamentary Answer on Housing Benefit – 7 March 1986

Below is the text of Mr Major’s written Parliamentary Answer on Housing Benefit on 7th March 1986.

Mr. Hancock Asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what proportion of domestic ratepayers in Portsmouth receive housing benefit.

Mr. Major [pursuant to his reply, 28 February 1986, c. 715]: We estimate that the number of rate rebate recipients, based on the local authority’s subsidy returns, as a proportion of the number of domestic ratepayers in Portsmouth is about 38 per cent.
