The Rt. Hon. Sir John Major KG CH

Prime Minister of Great Britain and Northern Ireland 1990-1997

1983-1987 Parliament

Mr Major’s Written Parliamentary Answer on the Housing Benefit Scheme – 21 April 1986

Below is the text of Mr Major’s written Parliamentary Answer on the Housing Benefit Scheme on 21st April 1986.

Mr. Pike Asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he proposes any changes in the administration of the housing benefit scheme.

Mr. Major There are no plans to change the general arrangements under which local authorities are responsible for the administration of the housing benefits scheme. Minor changes to detailed procedures will always be necessary from time to time and a number of more significant changes will result from the Government’s plans for reforming the housing benefits scheme set out in the White Paper on the reform of social security (Cmnd. 9691).
