The Rt. Hon. Sir John Major KG CH

Prime Minister of Great Britain and Northern Ireland 1990-1997

1983-1987 Parliament

Mr Major’s Written Parliamentary Answer on Housing Benefit – 29 April 1986

Below is the text of Mr Major’s written Parliamentary Answer on Housing Benefit on 29th April 1986.

Mr. David Atkinson Asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many representations he has received on the new method of assessment of housing benefit.

Mr. Major Over 2,000 submissions were made by individuals and organisations in response to the housing benefit proposals contained in our Green Paper “Reform of Social Security.” Further comments have been received on our subsequent White Paper. Virtually every submission commented – favourably – on the proposed new method of assessing housing benefit on the same basis as income support.
