Mr Major’s Written Parliamentary Answer on the North-East Region – 11 January 1988

Below is the text of Mr Major’s written Parliamentary Answer on the North-East Region on 11th January 1988.

Rev. Martin Smyth To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the annual figure for Government subventions, grants and expenditures to the economy of the north-east region of England, indicating the absolute figures, the north-east region contribution and the per capita figure for the population of the United Kingdom as a whole; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Major Apart from expenditure which is the responsibility of the territorial Departments, most public expenditure is planned on a national basis and it is not possible to identify separately expenditure allocated to a particular area.
