Mr Major’s Written Parliamentary Answer on Job Creation – 12 May 1988

Below is the text of Mr Major’s written Parliamentary Answer on Job Creation on 12th May 1988.

Mr. Sumberg To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what estimates he has of the effect of his Budget on job creation in the north-west.

Mr. Major My right hon. Friend’s Budget provides the best possible environment for economic growth and enterprise in all parts of the country, including the North-West. The number of unemployed in the North-West has fallen by over 20 per cent. since June 1986 and over the past year the unemployment rate in the North-West has fallen by more than in any region other than the West Midlands.
