Below is the text of Mr Major’s written Parliamentary Answer on Industrial Investment on 6th April 1989.
Mr. Strang To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his estimate of the level of industrial investment in the last year; and what change he expects in investment in the current year.
Mr. Major Total business investment in 1988 was £49.8 billion at 1985 prices, its highest level ever, as a percentage of GDP. It was forecast in the Financial Statement and Budget Report to increase yet further, by 8 per cent. in 1989.
