Below is the text of the written answers relating to Prime Minister’s Question Time from 17th June 1991.

PRIME MINISTER:

Foundation for Sports and the Arts

Mr. Alton : To ask the Prime Minister if he will make a statement about progress towards the establishment of a Foundation for Sport and the Arts.

The Prime Minister : I am pleased to say that the three members of the Pools Promoters Association have now confirmed that they will set up the Foundation for Sport and the Arts. I understand that the pools promoters are now working hard to finalise the trust deed under which the foundation will operate, and will soon be appointing the first trustees. The way is now clear for the Government to make the reduction in pool betting duty announced by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer in his Budget speech and new clauses to the Finance Bill have been tabled.

Holy Loch

Mrs. Ray Michie : To ask the Prime Minister what agreements there are between the United States of America and United Kingdom Governments concerning the establishment and use of the United States base at Holy Loch.

The Prime Minister : Details of the agreements between the United Kingdom and United States Governments for the use of the Holy Loch by the United States Navy are confidential between the two Governments.
