The Rt. Hon. Sir John Major KG CH

Prime Minister of Great Britain and Northern Ireland 1990-1997

Chief Secretary (1987-1989)

Mr Major’s Written Parliamentary Answer on Labour Statistics – 18 December 1987

Below is the text of Mr Major’s written Parliamentary Answer on Labour Statistics on 18th December 1987.

Mr. Wray Asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer pursuant to his reply of 14 December, Official Report, column 374, how many people in Scotland were working, for each year since 1983, in (a) industrial cleaning, (b) computer services and (c) road haulage.

Mr. Major I regret that the information is only available for 1984, from the census of employment. In September 1984 the number of employees in employment in Scotland in industrial and commercial cleaning services totalled 15,000, in computer services 2,800, and in road haulage 19,400.
