Press Release of Mr Major’s Meeting with Northern Ireland Conservatives – 13 February 1992

Below is the text of the Conservative Party Press Release on Mr Major’s meeting with Northern Ireland Conservatives. It was issued on Thursday 13th February 1992, reference 192/92.


The Rt Hon John Major (Prime Minister and Leader of the Conservative Party) met the two Northern Ireland representatives on the National Union Executive Committee, Mr Jim McCormick (the Chairman of the Northern Ireland Conservative Council) and Dr Laurence Kennedy (prospective parliamentary candidate for North Down) for a private meeting before the National Union Executive Committee dinner this evening. The Prime Minister was accompanied by the Rt Hon Christopher Patten (Chairman of the Conservative Party) and the Rt Hon Sir John Cope (Deputy Chairman).

They discussed a wide range of issues relevant to the Conservative Party and Northern Ireland including politics and security. The Prime Minister concluded by giving full Party support for Conservatives in Northern Ireland and wishing them every success at the forthcoming Election.
