Sir John Major’s Statement on the Death of Lord Mawhinney – 10 November 2019

Below is the text of the statement issued by Sir John Major following the death of the Rt. Hon. the Lord Mawhinney on 10 November 2019.

Brian Mawhinney, my Parliamentary neighbour, was brave, principled, and the very best of colleagues – whatever the political weather.
He could be combative, but he was always caring – and never once failed to observe the decencies of politics.

Brian had been unwell for some time, but Betty and their family were a constant source of strength to him, and remained devotedly so until the very end. All my thoughts are with them now.
